Privacy Policy

Mappingo is operated by MappOptimist Technologies LLP ("we"). This policy explains what we collect when you use the Mappingo app, why, and the choices you have. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
What we collect
- Account: your phone number (to sign you in with a one-time code), your name, date of birth, gender (you can hide it) and the "about you" details you add.
- Photos: your profile photos, the live photo you take when you check in, and photos, videos and voice notes you send in chats.
- Face verification: when you verify, we turn your selfie into a numeric face template and compare it with your photos and check-in photos so profiles stay real. We use it only for verification, never for advertising or to identify you anywhere else.
- Location: your precise location while you use the app, to show venues and people nearby and to confirm you're at a venue when you check in. While you're checked in, we keep checking it in the background only to notice when you leave and check you out. Other people never see your exact location, only the venue you checked into, and people nearby see a rounded distance.
- Contacts (optional): if you choose "Find friends from contacts", phone numbers from your address book are converted into one-way hashes on our server to find friends already on Mappingo. We don't store your address book.
- Activity: check-ins, chats, invites, plans and Met cards, so the app works; basic usage events (for example your first check-in) to understand how the app is used.
- Device: a push notification token, and technical information needed to keep the service secure.
How we use it
- To run Mappingo: sign-in, venues, check-ins, rooms, chats, calls, plans, perks, Met cards and your monthly recap.
- To keep people safe: face verification, preventing fake or duplicate accounts, and reviewing reports.
- To send notifications you can switch off in the app.
- To improve the app using aggregated usage statistics.
Who can see what
- People checked in at the same venue can see your profile, check-in photo and vibe. People outside the room see only a count.
- Friends can see which venue you checked into, unless you turn off "Share my check-ins with friends".
- You can hide your photos from any person, hide yourself from Nearby, and block or report anyone.
Service providers
We use Google Firebase and Google Cloud (sign-in, database, storage, notifications), Amazon Web Services (servers) and Google Maps Platform (venue information). They process data only to provide these services to us. We may share information if the law requires it or to protect people's safety.
How long we keep it
- Your check-in photo is deleted when you check out.
- Your account data is kept while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, photos and face template and remove you from other people's lists; limited records may be kept where the law requires or to handle reports and fraud.
Your rights
You can access and update your details in the app, withdraw consent (for example to contacts or location) in your phone's settings, and delete your account at any time (see Delete account). Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you may also ask us about the data we hold, request correction or erasure, and raise a grievance.
Age
Mappingo is for people aged 18 and over.
